Safeguarding in the Ministry Area

We are committed to being a Safe Church.  We want to provide a safe, happy and supportive environment of mission and ministry in which all God’s people can grow and develop in their Christian commitment.  Safeguarding is part of our core faith and an integral feature of Christian life in our churches.

We are committed to ensuring the highest standards of behaviour and care with children and vulnerable adults and have formally adopted the Church in Wales Safeguarding Policy.

Policy and Guidance

The Church in Wales sets a clear expectation that all clergy, staff and volunteers are familiar with and understand the Safeguarding Policy and related guidance.  The guidance also contains example consent forms and risk assessment templates.

Safeguarding Training

Several training modules are offered by the Church in Wales.

We strongly encourage everyone in the church to complete the very short online Module A, which seeks to raise awareness and help us to spot the signs of all forms of abuse.  After all, safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility.

Training modules have also been developed for those in leadership positions and various roles in the church.  A full list of the modules and those they are aimed at is set out in the Training FrameworkTraining dates can be found and booked on the Church in Wales website.

Reporting a concern

If you have any suspicions, concerns, knowledge, disclosures or allegations of abuse you must report it immediately to the Monmouth Diocese Provincial Safeguarding Officer - Colin Taylor (07956) 790330 colintaylor@cinw.org.uk or you can complete an online form.  If you have information about a safeguarding situation where a child or adult is in immediate danger please call 999 – do not delay.

Support

We are committed to the provision of appropriate and supportive pastoral care for victims and survivors, their families and anyone else affected by all forms of abuse and harm.  If you would like to talk to someone, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the Ministry team.  Other sources of help and support can be found on the Church in Wales website.
